On 8 Jan 2005 Elvis Presley would have been 70 years old. Help me celebrate by watching some films that, had it not been for the King, would not exist (and the world would be a much sadder place).

8pm: Six-String Samurai (1998)
In 1957, Russia dropped the bomb on the US. Elvis is crowned King of the last American stronghold, Lost Vegas. Forty years later, the King is dead. Every sword-wielding rocker is on his way to Vegas to claim the throne (even Death himself).

10pm-ish: Bubba Ho-Tep (2002)
Elvis did not die in 1977. Years before, he had tired of fame and swapped identities with an impersonator. Now stuck in a rest home in Texas, Elvis (Bruce Campbell) and JFK (Ossie Davis) realize an evil mummy has been sucking their friends' souls. Can they save humanity?

I'll be frying up some peanut-butter-and-banana sandwiches for any curious people. Hey, if it's good enough for the King, why not?

Jen and Chris W. have volunteered their (larger) place as a substitute if need be.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery:

Elvis has left the building.
